How to Grow an Instagram Business Account from Zero

A step-by-step plan for small Indian businesses starting Instagram from scratch.

You've opened a shop page. Zero followers, zero posts. Here's the first 60 days.

Week 1: Set up

  • Switch to a Business or Creator account.
  • Name field with keywords: "Sharma Sweets | Lucknow".
  • Bio with what, where, proof, CTA.
  • WhatsApp or website link.
  • Post 9 posts before telling anyone — an empty grid kills trust.

Week 1–2: Base

Invite your phone contacts and customers. Put a QR code on the counter. A small base of Indian followers helps the page look established when customers check it.

Weeks 2–8: Content rhythm

  • 3–4 reels a week (process, behind the scenes, customer reactions)
  • 2 posts a week (offers, products, reviews)
  • Daily stories

Make every post look alive

New business posts often sit at 5 likes. Adding a few hundred likes and reel views to your main posts makes customers more likely to message.

Track what sells

Ask every customer "how did you find us?" Double down on content that brings orders.
