There are now two ways to get a blue tick on Instagram.
1. Meta Verified (paid)
A monthly subscription that verifies your identity with a government ID. Available in India for creators and businesses, with a monthly fee. You get the badge, impersonation protection and better support. Your account needs to meet basic activity requirements and your profile name must match your ID.
2. Notable verification (free)
The traditional route: Instagram verifies accounts of notable people and brands. You apply via Settings → Account type and tools → Request verification. Instagram looks for:
- Authenticity: a real person or registered business.
- Uniqueness: the main account for that person/brand.
- Completeness: public, bio, profile photo, at least one post.
- Notability: coverage in multiple news sources (not paid or promotional).
Improving your chances
Press coverage matters most. Follower count helps you look notable, but isn't enough alone.
Meanwhile
You can still get blue-tick social proof on your posts: comments from verified Indian accounts on launches and announcements stand out to every visitor.
